Frustrated with ill-fitting sweaters and coats, I created American Pup to fill the void in the dog apparel market in January 2002. I wanted clothing for my dogs that fit properly (comfortable), looked good and was reasonably priced.

My background as a designer of children's and junior sportswear and my love of dogs helped me transition into "canine" clothing. My first priority in designing these garments was comfort for the dog. Who doesn't wear sweatshirts or tee shirts to be comfortable while exercising, sleeping, relaxing or walking the dog? Why shouldn't a dog be just as comfortable? The classic styles— crew neck and hooded sweatshirts or "baseball" style tee shirts— all have screen printed logos on the back and are made of cotton and polyester fabrics that are soft on both the inside and outside. The front of the shirts are cut high to avoid wetting and all the sweatshirts have a buttonhole in the back for dogs that use harnesses.

Although the designers at American Pup are constantly looking to update the line by incorporating the latest trends in fabrics and trim, the original best sellers - the basic fleece hoodies - will always be available. Our philosophy is to offer fashion that dogs love to wear because of the comfortable fit and people like to buy because of the styles.
